The Penedès region stretches along a large area of land that lies between the sea and mountains, and midway between the cities of Barcelona and Tarragona. Its contrasting landscape of sea and mountains are harmonised by sweeping vineyards which shape the identity of this region. Ample sunshine for most of the year and the influence of the Mediterranean Sea make this a privileged land to grow vines, and so it is no wonder that wine has been made there for over 2,700 years.

Mountain ranges in the Penedès region such as the Litoral, Prelitoral and the Montserrat massif, among others, along with the geological depressions such as Penedès, Canyelles and Foix, provide a great diversity of soils and soil composition.

The Joan Sardà winery grows its own vines on 12 hectares of land located in Central Penedès. These vineyards are mainly nourished by deep soils and limestone clay. The climate is generally Mediterranean- both mild and warm -while sea breezes in summer oxygenise the vineyards. Temperatures oscillate from day to night, from season to season and this is beneficial in obtaining optimum grape ripeness.

The Joan Sardà vineyard mainly grows Xarel·lo, Chardonnay, Sumoll, Cabernet Sauvignon, Macabeo, and Parellada grape varieties. The winery unites traditional varieties with some of the international ones that are well-established in the territory.
